Location (precise)

The core of DeepWalk: we use your device's GPS position to detect when you are near a story location and play the right audio. Location is used while the app is in use, including when your screen is locked during an active walk (via an ongoing notification you can stop at any time). Story locations are downloaded to your device and your position is matched on your device — your GPS coordinates are not sent to our servers, and we do not store your movement path or location history.

Anonymous route data

By default, DeepWalk collects anonymized data about the routes you walk while using the app, so we can understand usage patterns and improve our story content and app experience. This data is stripped of information that could identify you or your device, and is not linked to your account, even if you are signed in. You can disable this at any time in Settings → Privacy. This applies whether or not you have an account.

Legal basis: legitimate interest, since the data is anonymized and used solely to improve the app.

Listening history

If you are signed in, we record which stories you have listened to and when (including completion progress), so you can pick up where you left off and avoid repeats. Because stories are tied to places, this history indirectly indicates places you have visited. It is private to your account and is deleted when you delete your account.

For guides and creators

If you use the guide dashboard to record a route, the GPS coordinates you capture for that route are stored as part of the content you are creating. This applies only to creator route capture, not to listeners in Wander Mode.

Account data (optional)

You can use DeepWalk without an account. If you create one, we collect your email address and name to save your progress, purchases and preferences across devices.

Purchases

Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS). We receive confirmation of your purchase and subscription status, but never your payment card details.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how people use DeepWalk, so we can improve the app. These tools may collect your device identifier and approximate location (region/city-level, derived from IP address). This is governed by Google's privacy policy. We also use our own internal analytics, stored in our own database, to track app usage such as which tours and features are viewed. Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager only load after you accept cookies via our consent banner. You can change your choice anytime using the 'Cookie Settings' link in the footer.
